Lent Week Three - Awareness about Climate Change

The climate crisis is one of the most pressing issues of our time,
and its effects are being felt worldwide. Unfortunately, the most severe climate events are often felt by those who are the least responsible for the emissions causing them. Extreme weather events like droughts and floods, are consequences of climate change. These events also affect health, with the increased risk of waterborne diseases like malaria and dengue fever.
Presbyterian World Service and Development (PWS&D) and partners work to combat the effects of climate change. Partners promote sustainable techniques for the future and help vulnerable populations build resilience to deal with crises. In addition, PWS&D recognizes that climate change work also includes our own personal and collective actions and choices. Through our combined efforts and advocacy, we can help create a more just and sustainable world where everyone can live in dignity and with respect for the natural world around us.
This Lenten season, think about faithfully responding to Christ’s call to care for creation. PWS&D is committed to creating a more sustainable world.

 Janet Thomson Meeting

Sponsorship obligations for our refugee couple will be finished soon. In anticipation, the Refugee Committee started planning the next sponsorship last fall. We presented a proposal to sponsor a refugee family of 6 to Session which they approved at their January meeting.

This past Saturday (25 Feb) we learned that the family had successfully crossed the border into a safe country. The danger and stress they had been subjected to at home will become memories with much brighter future ahead for them all.

Now that they have crossed the border, we can submit our application to the national office of the Presbyterian Church to sponsor this family to Canada. The process is a lengthy one...possibly a year.

We ask the congregation to support our efforts to bring this family to Vancouver through your financial donations to the Refugee Sponsorship Fund. Ask colleagues at work and other friends to support our project. You can also consider joining the committee. Please talk to a member.

We hope you are as excited about sponsoring a new family as we are!

Join us when the G3 Group (Games, Giggles and Gab) meets at Crofton Manor on Thursday, March 7 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Miss Chief, the mischievous monkey, will be on hand to help get the giggles going.Moving G3 to Crofton Manor will enable residents to meet Kerrisdale Church members who they may have seen via the YouTube live-stream of our Sunday service. It will also provide them with a break from their usual routine and a visit for some residents who may not have family nearby.Speak with Marg or Bill Buschman for more information.  Request for help: The Metro Vancouver Alliance, an organization that our Presbytery belongs to, is working on a campaign to protect and increase housing co-ops to help with the affordable housing crisis in this area. We want to hear if you have ever lived in a co-op or have family or friends who do. If you do, and if you think they would take a few minutes to speak with us about the value of co-op housing, that would be fabulous. Please speak with Glen Davis about this. Contact: gjidavis@telus.net. Thank you for your help!
