Hello,

I am bringing some good news about our outreach ministry of Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church called Around the Well.

We are starting a small group with lunch and conversation on UBC campus every Friday from 11:30 to 1:30 at the Wesbrook Community Center. Our gatherings always seek to build community through welcoming, mutually transforming relationships but this series will specifically focus on topics of mental health, mental illness, stigma and recovery. Each week will include a one-hour dialogue about a related topic.

Conversations will be based on material produced by an interdisciplinary team of scholars from the University of Aberdeen and Regent College as well as pastors and psychologists.  We, as followers of Jesus, believe that Jesus is sending us to the campus to share our faith with others and also to learn from people who maybe do not know Jesus, but are known by him and can be blessed as they bless us with their gifts and lives.

We already have seven people interested in joining us, so we have only one more spot. If you feel or think that God is sending you to join us, you will be very welcome! We believe that this outreach ministry is to be done in the community!

May God bless you and our outreach ministry. Pray for us, particularly for Helen Anderson and I as we co-lead this program, for Pastor Richard Watson, Pastor Dan Matheson and Rev. Sumarme who are mentoring me in this project that is part of my Theological Field Education project as a student of the Vancouver School of theology.

Thanks for your prayers and encouragement. I will be happy to let you know more details about our weekly experiences on campus.

The KPC choir practices will resume on Saturday, September 23 at 10:30 a.m. Those who are interested in singing, or playing an instrument, please speak to Chang Hwa after the service.  New choir members are welcome!

Thank you to everyone who so generously donated to Marg Buschman, Ramesh Mardani, and Charles, Vanessa and Amelia Boname as they walked and bicycled to raise funds for Ratanak’s vital work in Cambodia. Together they raised more than $5,000. Ratanak has not quite reached their goal of $100,000.00 yet, but they are almost there. The window for donations will remain open until early next month.

Traffickers promise young Cambodian women and men well-paying jobs abroad, but instead, they are sold into modern-day slavery. They endure brutal working conditions and physical and sexual violence and they are trapped with no way home. Your support enables Ratanak’s more than 70 Cambodian employees to work with survivors who manage to escape these horrible conditions.

To donate, please enter https://www.roadtofreedomchallenge.com/ in your browser address line. Then click on DONATE, which appears in the top, right corner of the page.  You may have to scroll down to find the search box where you type in the individual’s name.
